Cambodia is moving politicly direction China. Obamas visit and the way he was treated showed this clearly. Hun Sens policy is to keep a balance on political influence, so his criminal and corrupt government can make business with all parties chosen. Huge protected natural rain forest areas were deforested right under the eyes of his government and everyone else in the past 2 Years.Today deforesting continues even on a faster pace. Mainly by Vietnamese rubber companies. Activists, trying to protect local peoples rights, are threatened, detained and killed. Beaches and Islands were sold out to foreign investors , mainly Russian and Japanese. More and more people are uprising against the sell-out and land theft in the country. Protests(sometimes becoming violent) are taking place everywhere around the country. The number of people driven off their unregistered land are growing in the same pace as the starving, land and work-less squatters around the main cities. The UN is silent as usual. Only few NGOs are actively involved in supporting the people of Cambodia in this matter. Why leave the easy life of daily routine? Most NGOs are busier supporting themselves , their high wages, and comfortable lifestyles paid by worldwide donors than taking proper care of the projects they are claiming to run. This is easier than field work and the possibility to get in trouble with the Hun Sen clan and /or corrupt officials. There are still people who believe, that Cambodia is a DEMOCRACY. That might be written on paper, but reality shows a different picture. The press and media are mostly in control of the Hun Sen Clan so is the power of money in Cambodia. Free press(at least in Khmer) does not exist. One thing is clear: Hun Sens CPP(Cambodian Peoples Party) will win the upcoming elections this Year based on the mentioned facts . The competing party’s like Sam Rainy do not have the voice(press/TV) and money-power to win this election which is based on Vote buying and threat. Very many voters are not even registered. Many are too poor to avoid vote buying. Plenty of these poor people vote for ” the devil we know” as they say. They believe things might get worse with another government, so they stick with what they believe they can handle. Lack of education and lethargy is the cause.Everyone knows: Law is for the rich. No laws for the poor. The idea of “we cannot change things, so lets live with it” is wide spread in Cambodia. This country is stuck in the circle of poverty and internal slavery of its own population. The school System lacks any description. Billions were invested to change the situation for a better. Little was done. Billions have disappeared and are still disappearing in a” black hole” under the eyes of the UNO and hundreds of NGOs. This is going on for 20! Years! Everyone seems to have settled comfortably, but not the right-less masses of the population of Cambodia. That is the bitter truth of Cambodia today and there seems no change in sight.
